How we decide
We look at the forecast and the sea the evening before, and again in the morning. Then we tell you directly whether you leave from Eden Island North Marina or Beau Vallon Beach, and whether anything about the day changes. Safety comes first: the crew may change the route, move the departure point, reschedule or cancel when conditions are not suitable.
What the seasons usually bring
In general, the months from November to March bring calmer seas on most coasts of Mahé, with more rain. From May to September the south-east trade winds blow, with more wind and swell, strongest on the east coast. April and October are the changeover months and are usually the calmest. That is the general pattern; any single week can differ, which is why we decide trip by trip.
What it means for each trip
The St Anne day and the half day run in the marine park close to Mahé and leave from Eden Island North Marina. The Thérèse Island day leaves from Beau Vallon, conditions permitting. The Praslin and La Digue day includes a sea crossing that depends on the weather, and fishing departures are confirmed for sea conditions. Private charters are planned around the forecast with you.
If your trip cannot run as planned
You hear from us directly, the evening before or in the morning. The conditions in your written booking confirmation apply to any change, rescheduling or cancellation; that confirmation is the final word on your trip.
Prone to seasickness?
Tell us when you enquire. We will point you to the calmer options and the shorter trips, and the crew will know on the day.
